I believe that field was added to support remote radius auth 
delegation.  It's not meant to indicate where the user signed up from.

For the most part, it is safe to assume that the first connection 
listed in the "connections" table is where the user signed up from  
Particularly if the connection date and time is closely after the 
timestamp on the account creation record.
