It would screw up the stats by removing some of the information
(through foreign keys) or refuse completely to delete the user
(also through foreign keys). At least that's what I remember,
but I'm not sure at the moment since the screwed stats would be
a problem in the first place.

I had the Network configuration opened and I was copying configuration settings (hand keying) in to a design document I was writing.  Somehow the authenticator parameter that defined where the user accounts are was cleared.  (you know the 'default-network' setting in the default network).  I ended up figuring this out when I queried the database and found that parameter missing.  I used an update statement to add it back (fortunately I had the value from my document).  That fixed it.
