[isf-wifidog] why have to install gateway and Auth-server seprately?

hi
  i install wifidog and it work very well. but i install the Auth-server and gateway both on one pc and i connect that pc to the access point, so i don't use openwrt and i don't install gateway on openwrt. but in the documentation i see that we have to install gateway and Auth-server on the deferent system , but i don't underetand why? please tell me why i have to install them seprately? and what is the advantage of this? and can you give me more information about how the protocol between gateway and auth-server work?
