Hi - this thread is becoming a story book :-))
Thanks for the link to your information. I already had it in my
bookmarks. I also applied your suggestions in the document.
If you are desperate for something to do someday, and you have access to
a Motorola router, would you mind sending me the contents of the NVRAM.
I could compare it to mine, and maybe, just maybe get another clue.

I have been pretty much trying to do what you recommended - get the
router working without wifidog first. From my computer, I can get
through the Motorola Router to the auth-server with a ping.
Ping 192.168.2.200 and I get a good reliable reply all the time. [2ms
and a TTL=63] [ First response longer 44ms]
So, then I try to ping my Sympatico box.
Ping 192.168.2.1 and I again get a good reply all the time [3ms and a
TTL=63]
But when I then try to ping Google.
Ping 64.233.167.147, I get a strange reply. The reply comes from
192.168.10.1 with a Destination host unreachable.
Perhaps you can answer this. When you go through Wifidog, the flashed
router provides your computer with an IP address from its DHCP server.
Now, you talk to the router, and it redirects you to the auth-server
where you log in. Once that is done, what IP address does your computer
go to. Does it keep the IP address that it got from the flashed router,
or does it then pick up and address from the next router in the chain ?
I guess what I am asking is how does each gateway get determined.
I can figure out the first router, it sees 64.233.167.147 as an address,
does not know what to do with it, so it passes it on to its gateway
192.168.10.1 - its WAN port has picked up its address via DHCP from the
Sympatico router at 192.168.2.1. So does that router treat
64.233.167.147 the same way, passing it on because it does not know what
to do with it - so it goes out its WAN port off to Sympatico.
Replies coming back are handles first by the NAT table in the Sympatico
router, and then by the NAT table in the Motorola flashed router.
Is there a flaw in my thinking somewhere ?
That is the part that bugs me the most, since I can talk to my
auth-server at 192.168.2.200 then why in heck can't I go to the
Sympatico box and on to the Internet. I can ping the gateway address in
the Sympatico box, so my computer sees it somehow.

I probably made it worse, because when I could not get DHCP to work once
I flashed with OpenWRT ( I could manually assign IP addresses and they
would work ) I decided to add X-WRT in case it could help. Well it
helped solve the DHCP problem as that now works, but I cannot reach the
Internet.
