Okay I have added the ifconfig entry and that gave the ip address to the
wds0.2 interface. And added the default entry. 

No ping from neuronB to neuronA. My next question is what firewall rules etc
on both routers? It’s the default firewall script that runs from openwrt.

I don't get it, wds0.2 is supposed to have the address assigned from  
wan_ variables.

How about if you assign it manually?

ifconfig wds0.2 192.168.2.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 up

Then check if you have a default gw in your routing table, if not:

route add default gw 192.168.2.1

Then try to ping 192.168.2.1 and see if you reach neuronA... and  
don't forget to wl ap 1 both.
