PostgreSQL is using many authentication :
 -Crypt
 -Md5
 -Kerberos
 -PAM
 -Ident <========================= ;-)
 -Password authentication
 -Trust

Maybe PostgreSQL use ident authentication because in your pg_hba.conf file
there is a ligne asking for it. Maybe FC4 put this setting by default. So
take a look in pg_hba.conf file.
