We have a default locale in the config file that is used the first time or when the session var is empty. We use only session vars, no cookie.

This has been around forever.

If you jump from the auth server to www.ilesansfil.org and set your
language there (which sets the "lang" cookie on the entire domain
".ilesansfil.org") then hop back to auth.ilesansfil.org, it'll respect
your newly-selected language.

I haven't dabbled into the auth server code, but where does it decide on
the locale ? From a session or does it set a cookie ? If it sets a
cookie, is it on the hostname or the entire domain ?

If it's a hybrid of both cookies and session then that might explain why
it works on your dev machine (not in the .ilesansfil.org domain) and auth
(in the .ilesansfil.org domain which gets fed the cookie set by www.)
